A memorial service for Preston Hirten will be held this Saturday, August 22, at the Unitarian Church, 10 Lyons Plains Road, Westport (directions below).  The service begins at 2 p.m.  The Hirten family encourages attendees to dress casually — “soccer shirts for players is great,” they say.  The building is not air-conditioned, so feel free to bring fans and water too.

The family also notes that, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Preston Hirten Memorial Scholarship, being organized by the Westport Soccer Association.  The address is:  PO Box 2561, Westport, CT 06880.

Directions to the Unitarian Church via Merritt Parkway (very easy): Take Exit 42 (Westport/Weston).  At the end of the exit, head north (toward Weston) on Route 57 (Weston Road) for about a mile.  At the 1st traffic light, go right onto Lyons Plains Road.  The church is less than 1/4 mile on the right.

Directions to the Unitarian Church via I-95 (more difficult): Take Exit 18 (Sherwood Island).  At the end of the exit, head toward Westport/US1.  At the intersection with US1 (Post Road), go left.  At the 1st traffic light on the Post Road (by McDonald’s), take a right on Roseville Road.  Follow Roseville to the end; then take a left onto Cross Highway.  Then take a quick right at the stop sign onto Weston Road.  Follow Weston Road straight, underneath the Merritt Parkway.  Continue to the traffic light with Lyons Plains Road.  Go right on Lyons Plains.  The church is less than 1/4 mile on the right.

  1. Preston was a great player and person. Westhill HS boys soccer has great respect for Preston as our opponent over the years. God Bless his family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with the whole Staples Soccer Program. We mourn his passing and honor him.
