The Wreckers’ 1st scrimmage of 2009 was a lackluster affair. Staples started strongly, and showed bursts of passion and creativity against a very solid Trumbull side. But there were long stretches of less than stellar play, compounded by a relatively punchless offense.
Greg Gudis scored the lone goal, in the 1st 30-minute period off a slot from Brendan Lesch. The middle period was scoreless, while Trumbull edged Staples 1-0 in the final 3rd.
“This was important,” head coach Dan Woog said. “We saw what we need to work on — and we will.”
