Staples Soccer Car Wash Earns $2,208

Today’s Staples boys soccer car wash earned $2,208 — just $192 below the all-time record. And that’s despite threatening weather, and a Columbus Day weekend that lured many Westporters out of town.

Funds pay for a variety of program needs.  They help pay off the boys soccer program’s $40,000 pledge to help fund the Wakeman B turf field, as well as improvements and maintenance of the Loeffler Field terrace.  They go toward scholarships, and many other good causes. The money also helps ensure that all varsity, JV and freshman players attend the season-ending banquet for free.

Nearly every player on all 3 teams worked 2-hour shifts.  Special thanks go to car wash chair Ned Hickok P’13; assistants Jeff Shikowitz P’12 and Rick Leonard P’14, and the many parents who helped supervise; Daniel Boyce P’14, who contributed all the cleaning materials; State Cleaners, for washing all the towels, and of course the Saugatuck Congregational Church, for use of their parking lot.
