Dan Woog Named State Coach Of The Year

Staples High School head coach Dan Woog has been named Boys Soccer Coach of the Year, by the Connecticut High School Coaches Association. He — and  coaches of the year in all other sports — will be feted on Thursday, May 10 ( 7 p.m., Aqua Turf Club, Southington.)

“This is certainly a great honor,” Woog said. “But it’s really not mine. Staples soccer would not be where it is today without our amazing coaching staff — Kurt Dasbach, Tom Henske and Chris O’Dell, who have been with us for years, and newer guys like Seth Sholes, Brad Green and Julien Delepine.

“And we’d be nothing without our parents, our fans, and of course the heart of the program — our players and alumni. I consider this a team award, in every sense of the word. It’s a fantastic honor for Staples soccer.”

(Tickets to the Coaches’ Recognition Dinner are $46 each. Contact Marty Lisevick — mlisevick@westport.k12.ct.us; 203-341-1263 — or send a check payable to “CHSCA” to John Fontana, PO Box 632, Southington, CT 06489.)

  8. Dan’l, it’s an esteemed honor you well deserve! Albie would be very proud of you, as he probably forsaw this moment decades ago, and am certain you have no bigger fan than Jeff Lea. The rich and distinctive tradition of Staples Soccer is still in the most capable and caring hands! Congratulations!
